Transition to Transformation with WAGS On Wheels Pet Taxi

Updated: Oct 11, 2024

My story

At the age of 5, my dream was to care for animals because of the unconditional love they demonstrated towards me. In my eyes, pets exemplify pure love, and they have always been my safe place when humans were not. This is why I pursued a career in veterinary medicine and a rescue business. I wanted to help what helped me. While studying animal science at Tuskegee University, I had undergone an experience that conflicted with my values, which forced me to change my career path.

Transition to Transformation

I transitioned into education for 14 years, where I underwent a transformative journey of trust. Through my interactions with students, colleagues, & parents, I learned to trust, care, & love humans. On this journey I rediscovered my passion for rescuing pets in a new way. The demand and need from friends, family, colleagues & neighbors for pet transportation services opened my eyes to a new way of fulfilling my calling.

God's Plan

God’s mission was to show me that in order to reveal and fulfill my vision of caring for His animals, I had to learn how to trust His people. It was all in God’s timing. Even though I didn't become a veterinarian, I reinvented how I rescued animals. WOW!

Tech Aspect

I remember you saying that your job had something to do with tech if I'm not mistaken. Another role I have is serving as an instructional technology coach in the Jefferson County School District. My role consists of providing instructional technology support to teachers in efforts to enhance their classroom instruction or work-life efficiency. This could be learning how to use Canva in a lesson for engagement purposes or becoming a Google Certified Educator. This support is provided through professional development, training, whole group, small group, or 1-on-1 partnering. I absolutely love contributing towards the WOW factor in teachers' everyday work life. What may seem so simple to others, can make a huge difference in another's profession and life. My role as an educator, tech coach, and entrepreneur has confirmed my purpose of serving the community. WOW! I love what I do!

App Development

Your plans for expansion and developing your app? To better serve the pet community, WOW aims to expand beyond the Birmingham, AL Metro area, and to achieve this goal, an app is essential! Our mission is to guarantee that every ride is a delightful experience for fur babies, providing pet parents with peace of mind knowing their furry companions are happy and, above all, safe!

NEW! Tech Speaking Engagements

I had the honor of presenting at the state’s annual ALET (Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology) conference. My presentation focused on our department and district approach in designing and providing Google Bootcamp Training in Levels 1 and 2 of Google Certified Educator for teachers and non-instructional staff.

As an instructional technology coach a part of my mission is to empower educators by sustaining their passion for education. Learning a simple tip, platform, or tool can influence a teachers' decision to stay or leave the education field, and I am blessed to be in a role that allows me to be a resource and make a positive impact in their classroom and work-life.
