Our November Tech Queen On The Scene is the beloved Dr. Adrenne Starks🎊 Dr. Starks believes that when young girls can see women successfully pursuing careers and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), they are more likely to imagine a STEM career for themselves. Representation can shift the world!
Through her company STREAM Innovations, Dr. Adrienne Starks furthers her mission to expand diversity, equity, and inclusion across various professions by encouraging underserved students to explore their passion for science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STREAM).
Discovering Her Passion
Dr. Adrienne Starks discovered her love for science in her youth. She is on a very personal mission to use her expertise to introduce STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to under-served and under-represented communities across the country. Throughout her career, Dr. Starks has fostered her passion for STEM through research, leadership, and business ventures. Her excitement to continuously promote and propel STEM can be seen through diverse, equitable, and inclusive initiatives.She received a B.S degree in Biology from Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University (AAMU). Dr. Starks obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and has been a part of multiple published research articles.
Why STREAM Innovations Inc., a 501(c)(3) is Important
Dr. Adrienne Starks is the Founder/CEO of STREAM Innovations Inc., a 501(c)(3) located in Birmingham, Alabama. Through STREAM Innovations, Dr. Starks helps students develop and explore by providing exposure, experience, and engagement. Their ability to address the STREAM educational and career pipeline is of importance from a local and national level in order to:
Provide innovative solutions to an increasingly challenging and complex society,
Ensure that all citizens are engaged in the conversation of STREAM ideas and the implementation of STREAM education to impact the health, wealth, and well-being of communities,
Remain competitive on a STEM global stage
Nationally, new job openings and replacements will generate over 5 million STREAM related jobs in 2018. The ability for these jobs to be filled by US citizens will rely on innovative and out-of-the box programs to reach individuals that are not normally considered to be a vital part of the workforce.
As a trailblazing leader, Dr. Starks’s success in STEM has earned her distinguished recognition and positioned her in various leadership roles. Including being a panelist on multiple esteemed organizations.
